Joel is a senior financial advisory professional with over 20 years’ experience in Asia. He previously worked as a partner at leading US and English law firms, advising on more than US$30 billion of M&A, private equity, structured finance and restructuring transactions, with a strong focus on Southeast Asia, particularly Indonesia.
Joel has a strong reputation for corporate and finance transactions, including private equity, special situations, mergers and acquisitions. He has been recognised as a leading lawyer in restructuring, finance and M&A by major legal directories, including Chambers, IFLR and ALB.
His experience also spans in- and out-of-court restructurings, including more than 30 Indonesian Suspension of Payment proceedings, UK Schemes of Arrangement, US Chapter 11 and Chapter 15 proceedings, Hong Kong Judicial Management proceedings, Singapore Schemes of Arrangement and applications under the Omnibus Act.
Throughout his career, Joel has represented many of Indonesia’s largest corporate groups and state-owned enterprises (BUMN) and has extensive familiarity with Indonesian public policy requirements.
As a Founder of Eliot & Luther, he has led the firm’s expansion into an integrated advisory platform, including the development of its green business capabilities across Nature-Based Solutions and carbon project management.
